April 25, 2000 - Welcome
I've done it! I've registered a domain name and set up a web site on a free web server
(which is why you see the advertising at the top of the page).
Now I'll be able to share the results of more than 10 years worth of hybridizing efforts
with you. You'll get to see some great Retics, which may not be available for another 10
years (such as the ones that bloomed for the first time this year). I'd really appreciate
feedback as to which are your favourites. To me this a hobby - gone a little bit overboard.
At the moment there is only one Dutch grower who has shown serious interest in my work:
Wim de Gode. This is the 3rd year that he has been evaluating some of my clones. I expect
that he will be quite interested in 94-HW-1 which bloomed for the first time last year. I
gave Wim two small bulblets of it, but they won't bloom for him until next year. I kept
the 3 bloom-size bulbs here so that I could use them for hybridizing.
I am looking for other growers, as well as retailers to introduce my hybrids. I am especially
interested in teaming up with growers because I prefer to focus my attention on hybridizing,
plus I don't really have the space to raise a large number of bulbs commercially.
I highly recommend that you take a look at the articles I've written. They contain a lot of
interesting information, such as last year's comparison of increase in Toronto vs. Holland.
It's going to take a little while to get this site fully set up, so please bear with me.
There's lots to share with you.
Towards the end of 2000 I hope to have a CD for sale with most of my writings and "tons"
of pictures. The cost of the CD will likely be $20. That money will go a very small way towards
paying for the CD burner that I'll need to buy, as well as towards my digital camera (an Olympus
2500L), software, etc. The pictures you see on this web site are smaller than the camera's 1712 x
1368 resolution in order to conserve space. The free web server only gives me 20 Meg to play with,
which is only enough space for 40 JPEG pictures (at that resolution). The CD will allow me to share
lots of high resolution pictures with you - I actually expect a 640 Meg CD won't be large enough.
I plan to have the CD both MAC & "Wintel" compatible.
